Wood Pigeon Columba palumbus (le pigeon ramier in French) is our biggest pigeon. With pin heads and plump bodies they don't look very bright as they plod about the fields in their self-important way. You find them in woods too, where they roost in trees and crash about in the branches. They are easy to recognise because of their bulk, compared to the domestic / feral pigeons, and also because they have a distinctive white patch on their neck. They are abundant in orchards, gardens and farmland.
For more information about them in English visit the RSPB species page.
