Mallard - Anas platyrhynchos
Mallards Anas platyrhynchos, or les Canards colverts as they are known in France (='green necked ducks') are by far the most abundant species of duck in the area. The males below were photographed in April in one of the moat canals at the chateau of Chenonceau.
