Large Pincertail Onychogomphus uncatus




Scientific Name: Onychogomphus uncatus (Gomphidae).

English Name: Large Pincertail (Clubtails and pincertails family).


French Name: Le Gomphe à crochets (='the Gomphid with hooks').

  •  males have yellow pincers at the end of their abdomens.
  • no yellow stripe between the eyes.

Lookalikes: Other Gomphids, especially Small Pincertail Onychogomphus forcipatus. This is the only place in Europe where so many Gomphids can be seen in the same area.


Habitat: Smaller, shady streams.


Flight Period: June-July-August-September.


Status: Rare.

    1. Thanks Tim. As you can see by the brevity, this is just a stub (as Wikipedia would say...). Because I was tweaking the Gomphids it seemed the best idea to get this up. I'll finish it and put in a photo shortly.
