 Scientific Name: Euphrasia agg. Scrophulariaceae.

English Name: Eyebrights. Figwort family.

French Name: Euphraise.

  • short, semi-parasitic herb found in grass.
  • small, white, lipped bell-shaped flowers in leafy spikes.
  • lower lip 3-lobed, with a yellow blotch at the base and purple lines.
  • leaves oval, deeply toothed.
  • stems covered in white curled hairs.
Lookalikes: There are many species, all very difficult to tell apart.

Habitat: Grasslands, especially pelouse, heathlands, arable land, waste ground and open woods.

Flowering Period: July-August-September.

Status: Common.
