Crested Tit - Lophophanes cristatus

The Crested Tit Lophophanes cristatus is apparently not uncommon in this area, but unless you are a serious birdwatcher, you probably won't see them very often, although they often visit large gardens. Their subdued olivey grey colour keeps them camouflaged and they spend most of their time foraging high up in conifer trees. They seem to particularly like cedars Cedrus spp.

  1. Les Cahiers de la Claise No. 10 "Les Oiseaux du Bassin de la Claise Tourangelle" show them as possible breeders in Preuilly sur Claise, Le Grand Pressigny, Charnizay and Chambon.

  4. Antoinette: with all your conifers I would guess your garden would have them.
