- blue flowers in rounded heads.
- low growing (5 - 30 cm).
- rosette leaves (long stalked, oval or at most, 3 lobed) and stem leaves (lance shaped and stalkless) do not resemble one another at all.
- flower stems may be very short or up to 30 cm.
- leaves produce a yellow dye.
