Common Globularia - Globularia vulgaris



Scientific Name: Globularia vulgaris.

English Name: Common Globularia or Common Globe Daisy.

French Name: La Globulaire commune (='the common globularia') or la Globulaire piquante (='the spicy globularia').


5 Key Characters:
  • blue flowers in rounded heads.
  • low growing (5 - 30 cm).
  • rosette leaves (long stalked, oval or at most, 3 lobed) and stem leaves (lance shaped and stalkless) do not resemble one another at all.
  • flower stems may be very short or up to 30 cm.
  • leaves produce a yellow dye.
Lookalikes: Carduncellus mitissimus, which has much more divided, greyer leaves.

Habitat: Dry grassy places and stony ground.

Flowering Period: April-May-June.

Status: Widespread but uncommon.
