Black Bryony - Tamus communis


Scientific Name: Tamus communis

English Name: Black Bryony

French Name: Tamier

Lookalikes: White Bryony Bryonia dioica, which has palmate lobed leaves and tendrils.

Habitat: Open woods, scrub, hedgebanks, on richer or calcareous soil.

Flowering Period: May-June-July.

Status: Fairly common. The new shoots are edible and were once gathered for the pot.
